New Hanover County Schools Announces Academically and/or
Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Student and Parent Meetings

New Hanover County Schools Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program will begin the high school transition process for currently identified rising freshmen this week. The transition process consists of eighth-grade AIG student and parent meetings during February and March to inform students and parents of the gifted education services provided at the high school level and to formulate academic blueprints for gifted students.

The formulation of academic blueprints for gifted students helps students navigate an advanced curriculum pathway that best matches their strengths and abilities. The academic blueprint will consist of a four-year draft plan outlining course offerings that best meet student needs and benefits the student in the future when considering colleges and future career choices. Academic blueprints are flexible plans that will be updated each year while in high school.

Parents of eighth-grade gifted students may select to attend one of the two county-wide AIG parent meetings. Students are encouraged to attend the parent meeting.

Tuesday, February 6, 2018, E.A. Laney High School Media Center, 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 8, 2018, Hoggard High School Media Center, 6:00 p.m.

Eighth-grade gifted student meetings will be held at each middle school. The high school gifted education specialists will meet with small groups of gifted students to formulate academic blueprints. Students will receive a copy of their academic blueprint to share and to discuss with their parents. Academic blueprints should be used to advise students when registering for classes at the high school level. Student meeting dates for this year are:

February 9, 2018: Murray Middle School
February 12, 2018: Williston Middle School
February 14, 2018: DC Virgo Preparatory Academy
