Career and Technical Education Students Showcase Skills as Aspiring Young Professionals
at FBLA Regional Competitive Events Conference

New Hanover County Schools’ students recently competed and won awards at the North Carolina Future Business Leaders of America (NC FBLA) Central Regional Competitive Events Conference in Newport. NC FBLA helps prepare students pursuing job opportunities in business technologies career pathways including: accounting and finance, information systems, business management and applications, small business entrepreneurship, business administration, and office systems technology.

The district and Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff congratulate the following students and their advisors for the successful demonstration of professional skills in the categories listed below:

FBLA Competition Participants

  • Cash Collins (Trask) - 2nd place, Introduction to Business Communication, Middle Level
  • Owen Deen (Isaac Bear Early College)- 3rd place, Business Calculations

Students placing among the top three in each category will advance to the State Leadership Conference which will be held in Greensboro, March 19-21, 2018.

“It was great to see our county having such a large group participation in these events, and to have come back with so many medals is a huge plus,” stated Dwight Findlay, Business Teacher and FBLA Advisor at Wilmington Early College High School.

NC FBLA is a career and technical student organization that serves students who are, or have been enrolled, in a Business Education course. The mission of NC FBLA is to help build and sustain Business Education programs of excellence in order to serve our communities, state, and nation. NC FBLA is an integral part of North Carolina’s Business Education Program, which serves over 280,000 students. It provides students with leadership opportunities as well as a means to compete with other students in regional, state, and national conferences.

There are approximately 6,600 middle and high school student members in NC FBLA. Student members have the opportunity to attend leadership training workshops, as well as regional, state, and national conferences. Members also have access to scholarship programs and the Vocational Education Honor Society.
