NHCS Special Education Teachers Receive Dr. Lucia Karnes Scholarship
Teachers to Represent NHCS at International Dyslexia Association Conference in November

New Hanover County Schools Special Education and Related Services Department is pleased to announce that Nancy Brewer and Janet Rogers received the Dr. Lucia Karnes Scholarship to attend the International Dyslexia Association Conference which will be held November 8-11, 2017, in Atlanta.

Janet Rogers has served as a special education teacher at the elementary, middle and high schools levels. Her 34 years also include experience as a Special Education Liaison, and currently the Curriculum Specialist for NHCS Special Education. She is also a certified instructor for Reading Research to Classroom Practice, Math Foundations, Dyslexia Deep Dive: The Science of Reading and Expert Teaching, and SIM Learning Strategies.

Nancy Brewer, of Winter Park Elementary, has been a special education teacher for 36 years having served at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Although she has worked with students with many differing needs in her career, her current passion is teaching struggling readers to read using evidence-based methodology. She is also a certified instructor for Reading Research to Classroom Practice and Dyslexia Deep Dive: The Science of Reading and Expert Teaching.
