NHCS Football Games Rescheduled Due to Safety Concerns
Due to student safety concerns, two New Hanover County Schools
football games originally scheduled for this Friday, October 9,
2015, have been rescheduled for Monday, October 12, 2015. The
Laney vs. New Hanover game will be on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at
Laney. The Ashley vs. Topsail game will also be played on Monday
evening at 7:00 p.m. at Ashley.
The decision to reschedule the games was made to avoid the
situation where students play two games in a 48-hour period,
which could increase the risk of injuries. The rain event that
took place earlier this week and last week caused previous games
to be rescheduled for this evening, Wednesday, October 07, 2015,
causing the conflict. NHCS Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley spoke
with the Pender County Superintendent Dr. Terri Cobb and the
Topsail High School Principal Chip Hodges, and all are in
agreement with the change as a safety precaution. The district
confirmed with the North Carolina High School Athletic
Association (NCHSAA) of their support of these decisions.
The rescheduled games are Laney's and Ashley's homecoming games,
however, student safety concerns drove the decision.
