Isaac Bear Early College High School Students Present Digital Literacy Portfolios

On Thursday, April 3rd and Friday April 4th, freshman students at Isaac Bear Early College High School (IBECHS), 630 MacMillan Avenue, Wilmington, will present their Digital Literacy Portfolios to faculty and staff of the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), New Hanover County Schools (NHCS) employees, and other select Wilmington community members. Digital citizenship through self-awareness was the driving concept students used to demonstrate digital literacy through the documentation of academic growth and achievements. Samples of the students’ work throughout the course of the program provide evidence of this growth achieved through rigorous practice and study of computer applications, course content, and individual areas of interest.

The goal of the experience is to foster the advancement of skills in independent reflection, critical evaluation, future planning, organization, and public presentation as students share their growth with the school community. This project-based learning activity was coordinated by Sheila Sokolinsky, a National Board Certified Business Education Teacher from IBECHS and Dr. Angela Housand, an Assistant Professor from UNCW Watson College of Education.
