NHCS Recruiting Volunteer Proctors for Upcoming Testing Season

With the testing season approaching, the New Hanover County Schools Testing and Accountability Department is recruiting volunteer proctors for area elementary, middle and high schools. Having a sufficient number of volunteers and community partnerships is important to the effort of maintaining quality testing standards.

“Proctors work with the test administrators to ensure distractions and interruptions during the test administration are minimized and order is maintained,” said Karen Greene, Director of Testing and Accountability. “During the test, proctors walk frequently and quietly throughout the room and help the test administrator monitor the test administration, ensuring all students have an optimal opportunity to show what they know.” All New Hanover County Schools will be testing the last 5-10 days of their academic calendar. Volunteer Proctor criteria and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible adults 18 years old or older and not enrolled as a student in the K-12 public school system.
  • Required training from the Proctor Guide and in NC Testing Code of Ethics, which takes approximately 10-20 minutes on a day prior to or on the morning of testing.
  • Requested attendance and volunteering at one or more testing dates from early morning to early afternoon.
  • Requested support of the test coordinator and classroom that they are assigned.
  • Required to maintain test security and ensure all testing procedures are followed.

At this time, our goal is to collect names and contact information of volunteers. Testing dates are from May 25, 2017, through June 15, 2017. Specific dates and assignments are as follows:
