New Hanover County Schools Announces New Appointments The New Hanover County Board of Education approved new administrator assignments for the 2013-2014 school year for the Special Education Department and the following schools: Codington Elementary, Ashley High School, New Hanover High School, and Virgo Preparatory Academy. Julie Askew will serve as the district's director of special education. Ms. Askew is currently the director for Exceptional Children Programs and Student Support Programs with Pender County Schools. Previously, she was the director for Safe Schools Healthy Students, assistant principal at Heide Trask High School, coordinator for Safe Schools/Discipline Supports, Behavior Support lead teacher and coach with Pender County Schools. She also taught behavior disorders, learning disabilities with Craven County Schools and New Hanover County Schools. Ms. Askew received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education-Behavior Disorders and a Master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington (UNCW). Eric Pfirman, currently interim principal at Hoggard High School, will serve as the principal for Codington Elementary School. Prior to his role as interim principal, Mr. Pfirman was an assistant principal at Hoggard High School. He previously taught social studies at Statesville High School with Iredell-Statesville Schools. Mr. Pfirman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA, and a Master’s degree in School Administration from UNCW. Stephanie Cole will serve as an assistant principal at Ashley High School. Ms. Cole is currently an interim assistant principal at Ashley High School. Previously, she was the In-School Suspension Coordinator at Myrtle Grove Middle School and a social studies teacher at Mosley Performance Learning Center. Ms. Cole has also taught in the Memphis City Schools system in Tennessee. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in Education and Educational Leadership from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN. Daniella Stamm will serve as an assistant principal at New Hanover High School. Ms. Stamm is currently a social studies teacher, Social Studies Department Chair, and curriculum and instructional lead coach at Ashley High School. Prior to her employment with New Hanover County Schools, she taught at Lumberton High School in Robeson County. Ms. Stamm received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UNCW. Erin Hankard has been named an assistant principal at New Hanover High School. Ms. Hankard completed her administrative internship at New Hanover High School. Prior to acceptance to the Principal Fellows Program, she was a Literacy and Instructional Coach and first grade teacher at Gregory School of Science, Mathematics and Technology. Ms. Hankard received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts, received a Master of Education specializing in Language and Literacy and a Master’s degree in School Administration from UNCW. Frankie Pollock, Jr., has been named the assistant principal at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy. Mr. Pollock is a Virgo alumni and currently serving as Dean of Students and BELL Site Coordinator at Thomasboro Academy, Charlotte, NC. Previously, he served as the administrator of education and music teacher at Wilson Middle School with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. He was a music teacher with the Harrisburg school district in Harrisburg, PA, and Norfolk Public Schools, Norfolk, VA. Mr. Pollock received a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Norfolk State University and a Master’s degree in School Administration from Grand Canyon University.
