NHCS-TV Plans Live Coverage of 2013 Regional Science Olympiad New Hanover County Schools-TV will present live from the campus of the University of North Carolina – Wilmington, the 2013 Regional Science Olympiad on The Learning Network of the Cape Fear (TLN) – Time Warner Channel 5 and Charter Cable Channel 12. The students of NHCS-TV will provide first-hand reports and coverage of Trajectory and Elastic Launched Glider beginning at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, March 2, 2013, and will run continuously throughout the afternoon, including complete coverage of all the closing ceremonies and awards. The Regional Science Olympiad is southeastern North Carolina’s biggest science competition. This year, 600 competitors from middle and high schools in six counties will face the challenges of 32 science-based events. From Dynamic Planet to the nail-biting suspense of Boomilever, Regional Science Olympiad is one of the area’s most competitive and engaging competitions. The following middle schools will compete in 23 events such as Disease Detectives, Reach for the Stars, Shock Value, Microbe Mission, Storm the Castle, and Bottle Rockets:

Students are competing for individual medals in events as well as a team trophy for the overall best scoring teams. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at 4:00 p.m. in UNCW’s Hanover Gym. Winning teams will advance to the State Science Olympiad Tournament held in Raleigh in April. Although “live” coverage begins at 12:00 noon, certain events will be open to the public for viewing and will be held in UNCW’s Hanover Gym between 8:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. To view an interactive map of the UNCW campus, visit http://www.uncw.edu/ba/campus_map/index.htm.
