ROCAME
Ashley High School
(Region
"O" Council for the Advancement of Minorities in Engineering)
Kim Robinson, Advisor
Rm 706
Representatives from industry and education organized ROCAME in 1979. Its purpose is to establish a sound foundation for a viable and accountable program to encourage minority youths to enter the fields of engineering, math, science and technology. The organization exists in middle and high schools throughout the area. Scholarships are offered to seniors who plan to major in engineering, math, science or technology and are members of ROCAME. One of ROCAME's major events is the annual engineering, science, math and technology Jamboree. Engineers from General Electric, Corning, International Paper, UNC-W and the Corps of Engineers plan the competition and serve as volunteers in judging the events. ROCAME has made a positive impact on the lives of many minority students.
