AVID is an
international college preparatory program, available at several
middle and high schools within New Hanover County Schools, which is
designed for students typically underserved by colleges and
universities. Students, teachers, and staff volunteer to
participate and follow a set of research-based strategies ensuring
student success. The students are required to enroll in a set of
rigorous courses, which will meet admission standards for college.
They must also attend an AVID elective class. Historically, 95% of
those students who complete AVID classes are accepted into a four
year college or university and over 80% are still enrolled after the
second year.
