Codington School's Philosophy

We are a Multiple Intelligences School with the philosophy that every child's learning style is honored. We believe that every student and adult is gifted in some way and thus, has something positive and significant to share with the world. We believe, also, that it is our responsibility to provide opportunities for all students to express what they know and have learned in unique and special ways making use of their own gifts and talents.

Multiple Intelligences theory suggests that each person's level of intelligences is actually made up of autonomous types of intelligences that can work individually or in concert with other intelligences. Harvard Professor Howard Gardner, who was the first to bring attention to MI theory, originally identified seven such intelligences:

Musical
Bodily - Kinesthetic
Logical - Mathematical
Linguistic
Spatial
Interpersonal
Intrapersonal

Since his original papers, he has added to his list of intelligences:

Naturalist
Existential
