On Monday November 9th
we had 3 Golden Bear
Celebrations. Golden Bears
had S+ conduct for 3
or more weeks during
the 1st grading period.
The K-2 students had
a dance party, complete
with crowns and a red
carpet to walk on.
The 3rd graders had popcorn
and a movie. The 4th
and 5th grade students
went to the Cucalorus
Film Festival.
Congratulations to all of
our Golden Bears!!!

Lego Smart - Create A Balance
This activity is aimed at developing an
understanding of how a simple balance
works. Ms. Abel's 4th graders
learned how a "seesaw"- like balance
is constructed and used to compare
the weights of remaining LEGO bricks.

legocreations

Fourth graders completed
a bioengineering project after being
asked to have an imaginary pet frog as
their test subject. They needed
to find ways to ensure that the
frog got enough water by designing
a model membrane that slowly dripped
water into the frog's habitat.

trunkortreat
Thank you to College Acres Baptist Church
for sponsoring a spectacular
"Trunk or Treat" night
for our students and their families.

Each year Home Depot employees volunteer in
Ms. Johnson's kindergarten class to
show the students how to use carpentar
tools to construct models of homes, cars
and other exciting objects.

magic rocks

After studying the science unit on rocks,
sand and silt 1st grade students read
Sylverster and the Magic Pebble
.
The students then designed a magic
rock and listed the properties of the rock

embryology
Second grade students are
"Egg-cited about the Embryology
activities they are doing as
part of their Life Cycles unit.
They are studying embryology through
the hatching of chicken eggs.
The eggs will hatch in approximately
21 days, around the
18th of November.
Students learn about
what happens each day as the
chick matures and will

On October 28th Ms. Crow's 2nd grade
Intervention group performed a
Reader's Theater called Big Pumpkin.
It is the story of how a little bat
teaches a witch, vampire, mummy, and
ghost to work together to pull a very
big pumpkin from the vine. The group
practiced every day for a month.
Invitions were created and sent
to friends, parents and staff members.
After a wonderful performance,
the group had a Halloween Donut Breakfast.

PLC
Teachers at Freeman have formed a
Professional Learning Community (PLC)
to study the book
Strategies That Work: Teaching Comprehension for
Understanding and Engagement

by Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis.
The group meets once a month
and is facilitiated by our
Reading First Coach, Liz Carlson.

With the Senteo Smart Response
interactive response systems,
teachers gain accurate and
immediate insight into student
learning while increasing
comprehension, retention
and engagement.

sails

"Catching The Wind"
an Engineering is Elementary Project

2nd grade creates sails using the engineering process. First planning in their engineering notebooksand choosing materials. Once they build their sails they test them, improvetheir design and then test again.

owlpellets09
Fourth grade students explored the
contents of owl pellets, learning
how to identify bones from birds,
moles, rodents, and shrews.
Students used their STEM notebooks
to make predictions, record
observations, and reflect upon
their experience.
drypro
Third grade students had to design
waterproof covers for a cast to make
it easier for people with broken
bones to take baths or enjoy a pool.
To simulate a cast, students tested
paper mache wrapped around a
popsicle stick to represent the bone.
They had to choose which materials
would be the best for keeping
the water out. The cast covers
were tested by holding them under
water for at least 10 seconds.
