Application Process for Bus Drivers or Substitute Bus Drivers

Prior to applying for a Bus Driver or Substitute Bus Driver position, please review the mandatory NCDOT physical and legal requirements for the position as outlined in the North Carolina School Bus Handbook which is available at any Driver License Office or on-line at http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/driver_services/schoolbus/schoolbushandbook.

1. Create an on-line "Bus Driver" application after following the steps below.
   
   
2. Mail a copy of your resume and/or letter of interest to:
   Transportation Department
   New Hanover County Schools
   2814 Carolina Beach Road
   Wilmington, NC 28412
   
   
3. If selected for an interview, mail the following to the Human Resources Department at 6410 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28412 (Attention Classified Hiring):
   
   • Completed Disclosure & Authorization form. A pre-employment criminal background check will be performed. See the North Carolina School Bus Handbook for the legal requirements for the position.
     
   • Proof of Education (copy of transcripts or diploma). A minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required in order to be considered for hire as a Bus Driver with New Hanover County School.
     
     
   
   
4. Successfully complete the Bus Driver Licensing Class which is offered through the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV). Schedule information and class enrollment instructions-click here.
