Help the Troops!

I asked an assortment of Marines and Sailors working in the wing HQ over there what items they have found most beneficial.  There were a number of care packages in the HQ that I also looked in.  This list should give you an idea of the sort of items desired.

    • Flavored coffee creamers (they go very fast - lots of coffee is drunk)
    • Baby wipes  (still a hot commodity)
    • Small bottles of hand sanitizer
    • Real two-ply toilet paper
    • Dried fruit (small individual packages)
    • Toiletry items  (toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.)
    • Starbucks/Port City Java coffee
    • Individual tuna/chicken packages (3 oz. foil flats, not cans)
    • Jerky
    • Movie DVDs and music CDs (these get passed around)
    • Crystal Light type flavored powder/ tea (one package does the standard one liter plastic water bottle we get our water in)
    • Individual packages of trail mix
    • Coffee filters for drip coffee makers
    • One-a-day vitamins / vitamin C
    • AAA batteries
    • Tylenol / Advil (individual packages of two) - Sam's sells them by the box
    • Varity packages of hair products/lotion for females
    • Sucrets or other throat lozenges (lots of scratchy throats from dust/cold weather)
    • Eye moisturizer

Another idea given me by the medical folks is small plastic bags containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. that they can give wounded Marines in the field hospital.  Most of the time, a Marine is "medevaced" directly from point of injury to the field hospital, and they don't have those sorts of things on them.  You could put together a box of these individual packs and we’d have them located in our field hospitals.

A Marine leader!
