E. A. Laney High School Academic Boosters PROJECTS HONOR ROLL Description: Students are recognized for being on the A or
A/B Honor roll. Criteria: "A'
Honor roll - all A's in every course (93 and above) Dates: Every nine week grading period, following report cards END-OF-YEAR REWARD Description: Students are recognized for being on the
Honor Roll for three consecutive grading periods. Criteria: Students must be on the Honor Roll for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grading periods. Dates: Pens are usually distributed in May. EXTRA EFFORT AWARD Description: Recognition of those students who put forth "extra effort" towards academic improvement. Criteria: Student is selected by a teacher who subjectively feels that he/she has improved their academic performance with hard work and determination. Based on daily observation and grades. This award does not require the student to be on the Honor Roll. Dates: Awards are distributed at the end of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grading periods. STAFF BIRTHDAYS Description: Teachers are recognized on their birthdays with cards for Value Meals that are donated by McDonald's. Cares are distributed weekly. ADVANCED PLACEMENT LUNCHEON Description: A pizza luncheon is held once a year honoring all students that have taken an Advanced Placement (AP), Huskins or Dual Enrollment class during the current academic year. Criteria: Invitations are distributed to all students that are enrolled in the course requirement. Invitations are used for entrance to the luncheon. ACADEMIC AWARDS NIGHT & SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS RECEPTION Description: Students are recognized at a reception honoring their academic achievement. Criteria:
Students are honored with letters/pins for having a 4.0+ GPA. Description: All seniors who have earned an college academic scholarship. The student must show the academic scholarship award letter to the senior counselor. Criteria: The student does not need to attend the college from which he/she has been awarded the scholarship to be honored at this reception. RAY KROC AWARD Description: An award presented by McAndersons to one senior student who demonstrate the qualities of "well-rounded" individual. Criteria: Based on citizenship, sportsmanship, leadership and scholarship achievements. A student who is respected by students and teachers alike. This is not necessarily a student who is typically the recipient of sports or scholarship awards, but one who has excelled in a variety of areas. Citizenship: Demonstrates community service through volunteer work with a social organization, civic group, church, etc. Leadership: Recognized a a leader among peers and school staff in a position of authority within our community (e.g. student government, school-sanctioned clubs or outside organizations.) Scholarship: Maintains consistent and/or improved academic performance. Sportsmanship: Displays characteristics of good sportsmanship as a team player in every sense of the word - not necessarily through participation or support of school's athletic teams. SENIOR BREAKFAST Description: All seniors with 3.0+ GPA are
honored at a breakfast prior to the Senior Awards Ceremony. Criteria: All seniors with a cumulative 3.0+ GPA Visitors as of April 22, 2005
