Scholarship Bulletin

1.                  The NC Hispanic College Fund awards scholarships for $500-$2500.  Students must be of a Hispanic/Latino background, have at least a 2.5 GPA, enroll in a college or community college, and be committed to public service and community development.  Apply by downloading the application at http://www.theNCSHP.org by Jan. 15.

2.                  The Sam Walton Community Scholarship is available through http://www.walmartfoundation.org.  The deadline for entry is a postmark of Jan. 14.  Students may not be Wal-Mart employees or dependents of Wal-Mart employees.  Scholarship amount is $1000.

3.                  Find out about Naval ROTC scholarships at https://www.nrotc.navy.mil.

4.                  For information about financial assistance for students wishing to study health, science or mathematics, visit http://www.cfnc.org/HSM.

5.                  Scholarship information for high school students wishing to study nursing can be found at http://www.cfnc.org/NESLP or www.cfnc.org/NSP.

6.                  CFNC also has opportunities for students interested in teaching as a career.  Visit http://www.cfnc.org/PTSL  or http://www.cfnc.org/MTSL for further information.

7.                  Students wishing to major in engineering are invited to apply for a scholarship given by the Cape Fear Post of the Society of American Military Engineers.  Awards are for $1000.  Applications are in the guidance office and are due by Feb. 1st.

8.                  An email has come to Laney announcing a free scholarship search at http://www.schoolsoup.com that may help you find financial assistance for college.

9.                  Laney has been asked to nominate one student for the Toyota Community Scholars scholarship.  Students must be academically strong and must have made an impact through community service.  Students who wish to be considered must submit a resume to Mrs. Williams in guidance by December 13th.

10.              The McKelvey Foundation offers scholarships to high school seniors who have owned and operated their own business.  Young entrepreneurs who have at least one part time employee are asked to apply online at mckelveyfoundation.org before January 15.

11.              The Southeast Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is offering three scholarships to local high school seniors. Students who are currently members of JROTC or whose parents or grandparents are active or retired military personnel are eligible.  Only three nominees will be considered from each high school.  Interested students must fill out an application located in the guidance office before March 1st.

12.              Students interested in music scholarships at Gardner-Webb University are asked to fill at an application online at http://www.gardnerwebb.edu/finearts/scholarship.html.
