Scholarship Bulletin
February/March 2008

  1. Students who are children or grandchildren of active duty, reserve, or honorably discharged Marines or US Navy Corpsmen will want to go to www.mcsf.org and see if they qualify for scholarships.  Deadline to apply is March 3rd.
  2. High school athletes are invited to go to http://www.bigsunathletics.com to learn how to apply for scholarship opportunities.  Deadline is June 20.
  3. The Junior League of Wilmington offers three $1000 scholarships to students who have volunteered in their community and who plan to continue doing so.  Completed applications must be postmarked by April 25.
  4. The New Hanover County Council of PTA’s offers the $1000 Martha Huffine Scholarship to students who have at least a 2.5 GPA and who demonstrate need.  Applications are due back to Mrs. Williams by March 21st.
  5. Rotary Club scholarship applications are in the guidance office for students planning to attend UNCW.  Value is $2300 per year and applications must be turned in by April 18.
  6. The Rotary Club also offers $1500 per year scholarships to Cape Fear Community College.  Applications are also due by April 18.
  7. The NC State Chancellors Scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate leadership, scholarship, academic achievement, commitment to diversity, and financial need.  Go to www.ncsu.edu/cls before March 1 to apply.
  8. The Winston Salem State University Alumni Association offers scholarships for incoming freshmen.  Pick up an application in the guidance office and have it postmarked by March 1st to qualify.
  9. Students whose parents or guardians are state employees and are members of the State Employees Association of North Carolina are invited to apply for their scholarship.  Obtain your application at www.seanc.org or come by the guidance office to get an application for the scholarship OR for membership.  Deadline for scholarship applications is April 15.
  10. Students who are dependents of or direct descendents of a person who has served in the US Marine Corps or as a Fleet Marine Corpsman may be eligible for the Marine Corps League scholarship.  Applications may be picked up form Mrs. Williams must be returned before March 30.
