Scholarship Bulletin
January, 2008

  1. The NC Blueberry Festival Association sponsors and essay scholarship contests. Awards range from $1000 to $4000.  Details are available from Mrs. Williams in the guidance office.  March 15th deadline.
  2. The Wrightsville Beach Longboard Association sponsors two $1000 scholarships to local student surfers.  Applications are in the guidance office and in local surf shops. Deadline is April 16th.
  3. Best Buy awards scholarships to student based on good grades and outstanding community service.  Interested students should visit www.bestbuy.com/scholarships by February 15th to apply.
  4. Any student wishing to major in accounting should apply for the NC Society of Accountants Scholarship.  Applications are in the guidance office.
  5. Any student who has owned or operated a business for at least one year and who has at least one paid employee should see Mrs. Williams in the guidance office immediately!!
  6. The Abernathy Scholarship from East Carolina University is offered to students who wish to become science teachers.  Deadline to apply is January 31st.  Students must have a GPA of at least a 3.0.
  7. Laney can nominate one person for the Jagannathan Scholarship.  Students are chosen based on academics, FINANCIAL NEED, extracurricular activities and leadership qualities.  Interested students should submit a short essay addressing each of these criteria to Mrs. Williams in the guidance office by February 1st.
  8. One Laney senior WILL win a ten thousand dollar scholarship!  Awarded by the NC State Employees Credit Union, the scholarship is called the “People Helping People Award”.  If you are a person who helps others, our committee needs to hear from you!  Please write an essay describing how you are a person who helps others and why you feel you should win this award.  Turn essays in to Mrs. Williams in guidance by February 15th.
  9. The NC Space Grant Awards offers scholarships to students planning to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.  Apply online before February 15 at www.ncspacegrant.org.
  10. If you are a child of a Marine and your 2007 family income is less than $77,000, go to mcsf.org for scholarship information.
  11. Scholar-athletes are invited to apply for the SAMMY “Got Milk” scholarships at sammy.bodybymilk.com.
