November 2009 Scholarship Bulletin

 

1.                   Miller-Motte College offers 4 one-half tuition scholarships to seniors who enroll in one of the college’s Associate Degree Programs.  Testing is required on one of the following dates: November 7 and December 5.  Contact Rachel Solomon at 202-1069 to sign up.

2.                   Sun Trust Bank offers the ‘Off to College Sweepstakes.’ Enter online at www.offtocollege.info to win a $1,000 scholarship.  A winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 30, 2009 to May 14, 2010.

3.                  The P.E.O (Philanthropic Educational Organization) sisterhood offers a scholarship to female seniors of up to $2,500.  The female senior must have a 3.0+ GPA, exhibit excellence in academics, leadership, extracurricular activities and community service.  See Ms. Vaughn for an application, due by November 6.

4.                  *NEW* J The Levine Scholarship Program at UNC-Charlotte offers a scholarship that includes full tuition, room and board, mandatory fees, a new laptop computer, membership in the UNC-Charlotte Honors College, along with four summers of internship and enrichment opportunities. In order to be nominated, seniors should have a 3.8 GPA, a score of 1800+ on the SAT, a composite of 29-36 on the ACT and demonstrate a commitment to public service. See Ms. Vaughn in guidance as soon as possible for nomination information.

5.                  The Christian Connector provides a free college information service as well as a $2,500 Christian College scholarship drawing. Visit www.christianconnector.com

6.                  Do you have dreams of owning your own business? The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation is accepting applications for the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards, October 31 through December 31. Scholarship ranges from $1,000-$10,000. Visit www.nfib.com/yea

7.                  Seniors interested in attending the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) should see Ms. Vaughn for eligibility requirements and an application, due by February 1, 2010.

8.                  The Honors Program at the University of Georgia seeks students who meet the highest academic standards and who bring special artistic, athletic, leadership or other talents to the program. Interested seniors should visit www.uga.edu/honors for eligibility requirements and application information.

9.                  Visit www.SallieMae.com/Scholarships to use their free scholarship search tool. You will have access to an award database that contains more than 3 million scholarships and is expanded and updated daily. When you register, you’ll automatically be entered in a monthly drawing for a $1,000 scholarship giveaway.

10.              The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund offers awards of $500 to $2,500 to seniors of Hispanic/Latino heritage. You must have a 2.5+ GPA and plan to attend a community college or four-year university.  Visit www.thencshp.org click on resources and then students. Applications due January 15, 2010.

11.              The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers awards of $10,000 or $25,000 for seniors who are active in their community or have overcome personal challenges.  Visit www.axa-achievement.com to apply by December 15.

12.              Seniors who are history buffs or interested in politics, the Washington Crossing Foundation offers scholarships of $1,000 to $7,500. Visit www.gwcf.org to apply by January 15, 2010.

13.              The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) awards scholarships to one thousand seniors who are: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American, have a 3.3 unweighted GPA and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities.
