October 2009 Scholarship Bulletin

 

1.                   Miller-Motte College offers 4 one-half tuition scholarships to seniors who enroll in one of the college’s Associate Degree Programs.  Testing is required on one of the following dates: November 7 and December 5. Contact Rachel Solomon at 202-1069 to sign up.

2.                   Sun Trust Bank offers the ‘Off to College Sweepstakes.’ Enter online at www.offtocollege.info  to win a $1,000 scholarship.  A winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 30, 2009 to May 14, 2010.

3.                   Seniors with a strong business interest desiring to attend Emory University (Atlanta), see Ms. Vaughn about the Goizueta Business School Scholars Program.  The scholarship supports four years of undergraduate study, including study-abroad options.  See Ms. Vaughn by October 23 if you wish to be nominated for this or the Emory Scholars Program.

4.                   The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill offers a full undergraduate scholarship for outstanding student writers.  Visit http://english.unc.edu/creative/tws for all the information needed to apply. Applications are being accepted until November 2.  See the scholarship booklet in guidance for a flyer.

5.                   Seniors with outstanding academics are invited to apply for the Gladys Baars Campbell Full Endowed Scholarship to Campbell University. Seniors must have a 3.5+ GPA, an 1800+ score on the SAT (Math + Verbal + Writing) and rank in the upper 10% of their graduating class. See Ms. Vaughn in guidance for details as soon as possible.

6.                   The P.E.O. sisterhood offers a scholarship to female seniors of up to $2,500. The female senior must have a 3.0+ GPA, exhibit excellence in academics, leadership, extracurricular activities and community service. See Ms. Vaughn for an application, due by November 6.

7.                   *NEW* J The Levine Scholarship Program at UNC-Charlotte offers a scholarship that includes full tuition, room and board, mandatory fees, a new laptop computer, membership in the UNC-Charlotte Honors College, along with four summers of internship and enrichment opportunities. In order to be nominated, seniors should have 3.8+ GPA, a score of 1800+ on the SAT, a composite of 29-36 on the ACT and demonstrate a commitment to public service. 8.                   The Christian Connector provides a free college information service as well as a $2,500 Christian college scholarship drawing. Visit www.christianconnector.com

9.                   The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers awards of $10,000 or $25,000 for seniors who are active in their community or have overcome personal challenges. Visit www.axa-achievement.com to apply by December 15.

10.               Seniors with outstanding academics and interested in the North Carolina State University College of Textiles, see Ms. Vaughn in guidance about the Centennial Scholars Program. The scholarship is valued at $47,500 along with enrichment opportunities. See Ms. Vaughn by October 29.

11.               The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund offers awards of $500 to $2,500 to seniors of Hispanic/Latino heritage. You must have a 2.5+ GPA and plan to attend a community college or four-year university. Visit www.thencshp.org then click on resources, then students. Applications due January 15, 2010.

12.               Seniors who are history buffs or interested in politics, the Washington Crossing Foundation offers scholarships of $1,000 to $7,500. Visit www.gwcf.org to apply by January 15, 2010.
