September 2009 Scholarship Bulletin

 

1.                   The Park Scholarship at North Carolina State University provides a four year scholarship valued at over $80,000 to outstanding students with leadership abilities and an interest in public service.  Preliminary applications are available in the guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Williams by Thursday, September 24.

2.                   The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship provides a four year scholarship to students who will become teachers in North Carolina. There will be an informational meeting in the main office conference room on Wednesday, September 23 with Ms. Davis at the beginning of first block.  Applications are available from Ms. Davis and due by Friday, October 16.

3.                   The Bryan Scholars Program at Davidson College honors scholar athletes who present outstanding academic records, are strong leaders in the classroom and in their sport. Senior athletes interested in attending Davidson should see Ms. Vaughn in guidance for nomination information by Thursday, September 24.

4.                   AES Engineers offers a $500 scholarship to seniors pursuing their education beyond high school. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of character, as determined by the evaluated essays that are submitted.  Visit http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm to apply. Applications due by October 6.

5.                   Miller-Motte College offers 4 one-half tuition scholarships to seniors who enroll in one of the college’s Associate Degree Programs. Testing is required on one of the following dates this fall, all of which are Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.:  October 3, November 7 and December 5. Contact Rachel Solomon at 202-1069 to sign up.

6.                   Questbridge National College Match offers full scholarships to high-achieving, low-income students through its partner colleges. Find a list of the partner colleges in the scholarship booklet in guidance.  Visit www.questbridge.org for applications, due September 30.

7.                   Sun Trust Bank offers the ‘Off to College Sweepstakes.’  Enter online at www.offtocollege.info  to win a $1,000 scholarship.  A winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 30 to May 14, 2010.

8.                   Seniors with outstanding academics interested in attending Washington University (St. Louis) should see Ms. Vaughn regarding the Danforth Scholars Program by October 9.  Come to guidance for information on Washington University Academic Scholarship and Fellowship Programs as well.

9.                   Seniors with a strong business interest desiring to attend Emory University (Atlanta), see Ms. Vaughn about the Goizueta Business School Scholars Program.  The scholarship supports four years of undergraduate study, including study-abroad options.  See Ms. Vaughn by October 23 if you wish to be nominated for this or the Emory Scholars Program.

10.               The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill offers a full undergraduate scholarship for outstanding student writers.  Visit http://english.unc.edu/creative/tws for all the information needed to apply.  Applications are being accepted until November 2.
