Laney High School Senior

Receives National PTA Award

Fidencio Martinez, a senior at Laney High School, has been awarded a National PTA Award of Merit for his drawing.  He will receive a silver-plated Reflections medallion.  The medium used was acrylic paint. The winning piece of art features a portrait of his little brother and their dog.

Fidencio's painting was initially entered into the Reflections contest at the local level.  Fidencio's entry was one of the 24 North Carolina State winners of which only six placed at the national level of judging. Fidencio's painting was the only entry to receive national recognition from New Hanover County.  The entry will be featured in the Reflections Program Gallery on the PTA national website, http://www.pta.org.

Fidencio has also been awarded first place for his painting in the UNCW Surfrider Art Contest.

Fidencio will be pursuing his talent of visual arts after he graduates from high school. He plans to attend Memphis College of Arts on a $65,000 scholarship in the fall.
