Cheating and plagiarism are viewed by Laney High School as a violation of our ethical standards. Each work should be a student’s own, unless qualified as a replicated work. Procedure and consequences for the action of cheating or plagiarizing are as follows:

 

  1. First offense – If caught cheating the consequence will be a 0 on the test or assignment. The student will be given the opportunity to redo or make up the assignment or a similar one, if deemed appropriate by the teacher. This offense will be documented through the Laney referral process. A note will be entered into NCWise and parent contact will be made. After 365 days this offense can be expunged from the student’s incidents if no other offense of the same nature has occurred.

 

  1. Second offense – If caught cheating a second time, within 365 days of the first offense, the student will be issued a 0 on the assignment, a referral will be issued, and parent contact will be made, as with the first offense. In addition, the student will be excused from Honors Societies and Clubs. The student will be placed on a two week athletic suspension if the student participates in athletics.

 

  1. Third offense – If caught cheating a third time, within 365 days of the second offense, a referral will be written, the student will be placed on a two week athletic suspension if the student participates in athletics, the student will receive a 3 day suspension, and will no longer be eligible for any school-based financial scholarships.

 

Cheating includes, but is not limited to, use of crib sheets, document-sharing or reproducing (electronic or hard copies), supplying answers for another’s benefit, plagiarism, utilizing electronic methods to duplicate or reproduce tests, and many other methods.

                            CODIGO DE HONOR DEL COLEGIO LANEY

 

Enganar, copiar, o plagiar son vistos por el colegio Laney como una infraccion de nuestras normas eticas.  Cada trabajo debe ser el propio trabajo del estudiante, a menos que sea calificado como un trabajo reproducido.

El proceso y consecuencias de una accion de engano o plagio son las siguientes:

1. PRIMERA OFENSA- Si se le encuentra cometiendo una ofensa de engano, la consecuencia sera de un "0"(cero) en la prueba, examen o asignacion. Se le dara al estudiante la oportunidad de rehacer o tomar de nuevo la asignacion o una tarea similar, si esto es considerado lo apropiado por el maestro. Esta ofensa      sera documentada a traves del proceso de referencias de Laney.  Una anotacion sera hecha en el programa de NCWISE y el colegio contactara a los padres del alumno.  Despues de 365 esta ofensa sera borrada de sus incidencias u ofensas si no ha ocurrido otra infraccion del Codigo de Honor de la misma naturaleza.

 

2. SEGUNDA OFENSA- Si se le coge cometiendo una infraccion del Codigo de Honor por una segunda vez, dentro de 365 dias de la misma ofensa de engano o plagio, se le dara al estudiante un "0" (cero) en la asignacion, se hara una referencia, y se contactara a los padres, tal como fue hecho por la primera ofensa. Ademas, se le cancelara/ excusara al estudiante (de) toda participacion en Clubs y Sociedades Honorarias.  Tambien, el estudiante sera puesto en suspension atletica de dos semanas, si es que participa en actividades atleticas/deportivas.

 

3. TERCERA OFENSA. Si se le encuentra cometiendo una ofensa contra el Codigo de Honor por una tercera vez dentro de 365 dias de la segunda ofensa, se le hara una referencia por escrito; se pondra al estudiante en dos semanas de suspension atletica si es que es un participante en atletismo/deportes; el estudiante recibira  tambien una suspension de tres dias y no podra ser candidato(a) a ninguna beca financiera basada en el colegio.

Una ofensa de engano incluye, pero no se limita a usar notas para cometer plagio, compartir o reproducir documentos, ( electronicamente o copias), proveer respuestas para el beneficio de otra persona, copiar o plagiar, utilizando metodos electronicos para duplicar o reproducir pruebas/ examenes,  y muchos otros medios.
