What is Mosley PLC?
A small, non-traditional - NOT ALTERNATIVE - high school designed for students who are not succeeding in the traditional high school setting. The PLC model was developed in Georgia in 2003, and is quickly spreading throughout the nation. Mosley PLC is the fifth in North Carolina.
Mary S. Mosley PLC is in a partnership with Communities in Schools of Cape Fear. It receives partial funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.
Through Mosley's partnership with Communities in Schools, students are provided with internships, dual college enrollment, and technical training. They are challenged to develop marketable skills in preparation for college and/or the workplace.
Desks have been replaced by conference tables and chairs to create a business-like atmosphere. Students are taught interpersonal fundamentals and are required to wear their school uniform each day.
Who is Mosley PLC for?
Mary S. Mosley PLC serves students in grades 10-12 and designed for students who are at risk of dropping out. It's designed for students who may have fallen behind in their credits, have difficulty dealing with social issues, or are just not successful in their current school. It's not a place for those who are not willing to learn; instead, it's for students that are highly motivated and have the desire to succeed.
