| What
is PBS?
PBS is an instructional approach that focuses on systematically teaching social behavior using effective instructional methodology. Whole School Positive Behavioral Support is a systematic approach that establishes and reinforces clear behavioral expectations. The behavioral expectations we teach and reinforce are for students to be responsible, respectful, resourceful and receptive. One of the goals of PBS is to integrate our Safe Schools Plan, Character Education efforts and strategies and discipline efforts in order to make our school a caring and safe community for learning. The decisions we make about expectations is derived directly from the data gathered through student, parent and staff surveys and from where and when problems most often occur. The overall goal of the program is to help educate all students.
How School Wide PBS works at Murray Middle School. Students will receive "tickets" from any adult in the building when being recognized for displaying appropriate behaviors. The tickets can then be used to shop at the PBS store, pay library fines or cafeteria charges or traded in for field trip opportunities and raffle drawings. Individual classrooms may also provide items that can be purchased with PBS tickets.
