New Hanover County Schools
Receive Picturing America Awards
On June 2, 2008, in Washington,
D.C., the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced
that ten New Hanover County Schools will receive Picturing
America, a free initiative that helps teach American history and
culture by bringing some of the country’s great art directly to
classrooms. The awarded schools are:
Ashley High School
Bradley Creek Elementary School
Codington Elementary School
Blair Elementary School
M.C. Williams Elementary School
Murray Middle School
New Hanover High School
Rachel Freeman School of Engineering
Williston Middle School
Wrightsboro Elementary School
Each school will receive forty
large, high-quality reproductions of selected masterpieces and a
comprehensive teacher’s resource book to support teachers in
using the works of art in core subjects.
The National Endowment for the Humanities is an independent
grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to
supporting research, education, preservation and public programs
in the humanities-history, literature, philosophy and the arts.
The humanities allow us to understand the world and our place in
it.
