Tdap Booster Immunization Clinics to be Held at
New Hanover County Middle School Open Houses

Registered nurses of the New Hanover County Health Department will be providing Tdap (Tetanus, Pertussis, and Diphtheria) booster immunizations for rising NHCS sixth grade students. The immunizations will be given free-of-charge at the upcoming middle school open houses on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Most of the schools' shot clinics, with the exception of Murray Middle School, will begin 30 minutes to an hour prior to each school's open house. The middle school open house schedule is as follows:

Murray Middle School:
5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Tdap Booster Clinic - Begins at 5:00 p.m.

Myrtle Grove Middle School:
6th Grade: Last Names A-L: 5:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Last Names M-Z: 5:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Tdap Booster Clinic - Begins at 4:30 p.m.

Noble Middle School:
3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m./6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Tdap Booster Clinic - Begins at 2:30 p.m.

Roland-Grise Middle School:
6th Grade: 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Tdap Booster Clinic - Begins at 4:00 p.m.

Trask Middle School:
6th Grade: 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Tdap Booster Clinic - Begins at 6:00 p.m.

Virgo Middle School:
5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Tdap Booster Clinic - Begins at 4:30 p.m.

Williston Middle School:
5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Tdap Booster Clinic - Begins at 4:00 p.m.

Parental permission is required for students to receive the booster, and parents should bring their child's immunization records.

The Tdap booster shot is required by the State of North Carolina for all students entering the sixth grade in the 2008-09 school year. Students must receive the immunization booster within the first 30 days of school. Those who do not receive the Tdap booster within the 30-day period will not be permitted to return to school until proof of the shot is received. Students may also receive the Tdap booster at the New Hanover County Health Department, located at 2029 South 17th Street, Wilmington, NC, or by contacting their private physician.
