Mary S. Mosley Performance Learning Center Accepting Applications

Mary S. Mosley Performance Learning Center, located at 1805 S. 13th Street, Wilmington, NC, is currently accepting applications for the 2008-2009 school year. This center is a partnership with Communities In Schools of North Carolina and receives partial funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Performance Learning Center (PLC) will serve Grades 10 through 12 and provide a small learning environment that focuses on performance based learning, business mentorships and service learning. It will:

• Provide an alternate path to graduation for high school students who are not succeeding in the traditional school setting.
• Allow students to work at their own pace using online, computer-based curriculum.
• Employ a caring, highly trained staff to help students achieve their social and academic goals.
• Provide students with internships, dual college enrollment and technical training.
• Challenge students to develop marketable skills in preparation for college and/or the workplace.

Teachers and counselors will refer students to the PLC that are:

• behind in credits
• absent an inordinate number of days
• at risk of dropping out of school
• not meeting grade level competencies
• in need of flexible academic programming in order to overcome personal obstacles
• reading at an eighth grade level or higher

To apply, please contact Jill Larson, counselor, at 910-251-6161.
