Mary S. Mosley Performance
Learning Center Accepting Applications
Mary S. Mosley Performance
Learning Center, located at 1805 S. 13th Street, Wilmington, NC,
is currently accepting applications for the 2008-2009 school
year. This center is a partnership with Communities In Schools
of North Carolina and receives partial funding from the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Performance Learning Center (PLC) will serve Grades 10
through 12 and provide a small learning environment that focuses
on performance based learning, business mentorships and service
learning. It will:
• Provide an alternate path to graduation for high school
students who are not succeeding in the traditional school
setting.
• Allow students to work at their own pace using online,
computer-based curriculum.
• Employ a caring, highly trained staff to help students achieve
their social and academic goals.
• Provide students with internships, dual college enrollment and
technical training.
• Challenge students to develop marketable skills in preparation
for college and/or the workplace.
Teachers and counselors will refer students to the PLC that are:
• behind in credits
• absent an inordinate number of days
• at risk of dropping out of school
• not meeting grade level competencies
• in need of flexible academic programming in order to overcome
personal obstacles
• reading at an eighth grade level or higher
