Hoggard High School Student
Selected as a Candidate for the
US Presidential Scholars Program
Hoggard
High School student, Sophie Liu, has been selected as a
candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.
The Presidential Scholars program was created in 1964 to honor
academic achievement. It was expanded in 1979 to recognize
students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual,
literary and performing arts. Many scholars qualify on the basis
of outstanding performance on the College Board SAT and ACT
exams, or by nomination through the nationwide Young Arts talent
search conducted by the National Foundation for Advancement in
the Arts. These scholars exemplify the standard of excellence
schools across the United States strive for.
Sophie has submitted her application materials to be eligible
for selection as one of 500 semifinalists, and ultimately as a
Scholar. Students selected as Semifinalists will be posted on
the US Department website, http://www.ed.gov/programs/psp/index.html,
in early April and Scholars will be posted in early May.
