NHCS "PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT ROUND-UP" WILL BE HELD ON MAY 1ST

All New Hanover County Schools' parents are encouraged to attend a special workshop entitled "Parental Involvement Round-up" on Thursday, May 1, 2008, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., at the Community Boys and Girls Club located at 901 Nixon Street, Wilmington. This event is free of charge and is being sponsored by the NHCS Department of Instruction to help parents get involved with their students' success with testing. Dinner will be served, child care service provided, and prizes will be awarded.

Guest speaker Carolyn C. Foxx, an administrator in the NC Department of Public Instruction, will conduct the workshop, which will focus on student test-taking preparation. Parents will receive specific information on the role they play in helping their children prepare to do well on the End-of-Grade state tests. NHCS administrators will also be in attendance to provide information and to answer any questions parents may have.

This special event is designed to be family friendly. Dinner will be served promptly at 6 p.m. After dinner, while parents attend the workshop, various activities will be provided to accommodate children. Students can do their homework and then participate in fun activities including movies, puzzles, and games with the opportunity to win prizes.
