Noble Middle School Counseling
Department Earns Recognition as an American School Counseling
Association National Model
Noble Middle School Counselors
have become the first New Hanover County Schools counseling
department to earn recognition as an American School Counseling
Association (ASCA) National Model for a Comprehensive School
Counseling Program. Noble's counseling team, consisting of
Amanda Royster, Paige Turner and Adrian Waddell, worked
diligently to achieve this status.
As an ASCA National Model, Noble’s program reflects a
comprehensive approach to program foundation, delivery,
management and accountability. The model provides the mechanism
to design, coordinate, implement, manage and evaluate their
programs for students' success. It provides a framework for the
program components, the counselor's role in implementation and
the underlying philosophies of leadership, advocacy and systemic
change.
Implementing this National Model-based program, allows school
counselors to switch their emphasis from service-centered for
some of the students to program-centered for every student. It
answers the question, "How are students different as a result of
what we do?"
"I think receiving this national recognition shows
tremendous initiative on the counselors' part. Applying for the
award required extensive analysis and review of our counseling
practices. As a result, they are providing a counseling program
for the children that is very effective and I'm extremely proud
of them," Principal Wade Smith said.
