NHCS School Briefs:
College Park Elementary PTA will
sponsor “Celebration of the Arts,” April 28 - May 1, 2008.
Throughout the week students will experience, first hand, the
talents of various artists, storytellers, actors, dancers and
musicians from our local community as well as guests from around
the state. High school students, from local high schools, will
also share their abilities in the arts and encourage the
elementary students to pursue arts education courses. You may

various performances and events.
Holly Tree Elementary PTA is sponsoring a Health Fair at the
school, 3020 Web Trace, Wilmington, on Saturday, May 3, 2008,
from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Booths will be set up with information
regarding health issues, child safety, etc. The fair is free and
open to the public.
Murray Middle School students recently traveled to Winston
Salem, NC, for the Annual North Carolina Theater Conference. The
students performed Mother Goosed, by Jason Pizzarello. They were
allowed forty-five minutes to set up, perform and breakdown
their play, and a student stage manager called the lights and
sound cues. Three Honorable Mentions in Acting were awarded to:
Robyn Blanton, Cole Carter and Henry McCarthy. In addition, they
received an Excellence in Directing Award and were complimented
on their excellent theatre behavior and audience etiquette.
Robyn Dixon, Latin Teacher at Ashley High School, has been
chosen to attend a five-week institute at the University of
Notre Dame, and onsite in Italy, entitled, “Houses of Mortals
and Gods: Latin Literature in Context.” This opportunity is
provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Hands on Wilmington (HOW) is an organization that brings people
together to participate in community projects to make Wilmington
a better place. On Saturday, April 19, 2008, volunteers were
working at six New Hanover County Schools: Blair Elementary,
Eaton Elementary, New Hanover High School, Noble Middle School
and Williston Middle School. Various projects consisted of:
painting halls, classrooms, outside athletic buildings and
mobile classrooms, beautification/landscaping and general
carpentry work, such as constructing pergolas, etc.
