New Hanover County Schools Elementary
Student Entries Selected by TreeFest Committee

Slogan entries by two New Hanover County Schools’ elementary students, Maggie Smith from Bellamy Elementary, and Abbey Walker from Wrightsville Beach Elementary, have been selected by the TreeFest Committee. This year’s winning slogans are:

“Trees are Great in 2008!” by Maggie Smith
“Take time to plant a tree - Watch it grow and set your worries free.” by Abbey Walker

A live oak tree will be planted in honor of both girls at each of their schools. The plantings will take place on Friday, March 14, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. at Wrightsville Beach Elementary and 10:30 a.m. at Bellamy Elementary.

TreeFest began in 1997 as a way to replenish the trees lost during Hurricanes Bertha and Fran and continues to provide trees to the public to replace those lost during storms, disease, and development. The TreeFest Committee includes representatives from Keep America Beautiful of New Hanover County, New Hanover County Cooperative Extension, New Hanover County Parks Department, City of Wilmington, and other community businesses and organizations.

For more information about the tree plantings, contact Jennifer O’Keefe, TreeFest Committee Member, at (910) 798-4404.
