NHCS Announces Class of 2009 Graduation Schedule

New Hanover County Schools is pleased to announce the Class of 2009 graduation schedule. Over 1,400 seniors will receive their high school diplomas from NHCS. Ashley, Hoggard, Laney, and New Hanover High School graduations will be conducted on Saturday, June, 13, 2009, at Trask Coliseum on the campus of the University of North Carolina - Wilmington. Mosley Performance Learning Center will host its second graduation of the 2008-09 school year at Minnie Evans Arts Center on Friday, June 12, 2009. Parents and guests should contact the appropriate high school for ticket information and other graduation details.

The graduating classes at each of the high schools have achieved many accomplishments. Ashley High School had its first Morehead-Cain Scholarship recipient for the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Ashley seniors have received over $1 million dollars in scholarships.

MIT, Stanford, Duke, Yale, and the Citadel are some of the selective schools that Hoggard seniors will be attending this fall. Hoggard has received over 134 scholarships worth over $2 million dollars.

Laney reports close to $3 million in scholarships and awards to approximately 150 seniors. Ninety percent of Laney's Class of 2009 has plans to attend post secondary schools. One Laney senior received the Chancellor's Scholarship from Appalachian State University and many have received athletic scholarships in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, and softball.

Mosley PLC has a total of 28 graduates for the 2008-09 school year. Many of which will be attending Cape Fear Community College and will pursue studies in various programs ranging from nursing to auto mechanics. Other Mosley scholars have been accepted and plan to attend Fayetteville State University, North Carolina Central University, University of North Carolina - Greensboro and St. Augustine's College.

Over $5 million in scholarships have been awarded to New Hanover High School seniors. NHHS Class of 2009 includes 80 seniors who have been awarded academic cords for GPAs above 4.0.
