NHCS is Notified of the Confirmation of the H1N1 Influenza Virus
in Bradley Creek Elementary Student

New Hanover County Schools (NHCS) was informed today by the New Hanover County Health Department that the suspected case of the H1N1 Influenza Virus was confirmed in one student from Bradley Creek Elementary School. All NHC schools operating on the traditional calendar closed for students yesterday, June 10, 2009. No students were at Bradley Creek today.

Sherry Pinto, principal of Bradley Creek, notified parents about the H1N1 confirmation this afternoon using the district's ALERT NOW telephone calling system. Formerly, Ms. Pinto informed parents of the suspected case before receiving this official confirmation today. Information letters on the H1N1 Influenza Virus were sent home with students yesterday as well.

New Hanover County Schools will continue ongoing communication with the NHC Health Department regarding the H1N1 Influenza Virus. Through this ongoing partnership with the public health officials and the lead public health nurse assigned to NHCS, the district is constantly updated on the status of the H1N1 Influenza Virus in the community and will continue to take the recommended actions to protect students and staff. Additionally, NHCS posts the latest public health recommendations on its website, www.nhcs.net to help everyone stay informed about this issue.

For more information about the H1N1 Influenza Virus, contact the North Carolina Care Line at 1-800-662-7030.
