New Hanover County Schools Science Instructional Resource Specialist Awarded Sigma Xi Commendation

Karen Greene has recently been awarded a Sigma Xi Commendation, for encouraging student research. Each year the local chapter, honors a teacher for his/her work in promoting science and scientific inquiry in the public schools. Ms. Greene, K-12 Science Instructional Resource Specialist, provides curriculum updates, support and professional development for the science teachers in NHCS. In addition, she coordinates local and regional competitions for the science students.

Sigma Xi is an international, multi-disciplinary research society whose programs and activities promote the health of the scientific enterprise and honor scientific achievement. There are nearly 60,000 Sigma Xi members who were elected to membership based on their research potential or achievements. More than 500 Sigma Xi chapters in North America and around the world can be found at colleges and universities, industrial research centers and government laboratories. The Society attempts to encourage support of original work across the spectrum of science and technology and to promote an appreciation within society at large for the role research has played in human progress.
