High School Seniors
Awarded Kiwanis Club Scholarships
John Bowen, Hoggard High School, and
Carrie Icard, Laney High School, have been awarded the 2009
George H. Chadwick, Jr., Memorial Scholarships. These
scholarships, which are provided by the Kiwanis Club of
Wilmington, are awarded annually to deserving students, from the
four traditional New Hanover County high schools, who will be
attending the University of North Carolina - Wilmington. The
scholarship winner receives $7,200 over four years with
satisfactory academic progression and the runner-up receives
$900 for one year.
John is the winner of the 2009 George H.
Chadwick, Jr., Memorial Scholarship. John is a member of the
National Technical Honor Society and Hoggard’s wrestling team.
John plans to major in biology and pre-veterinary medicine.
Carrie is this year's runner-up. Carrie
is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and
soccer team. Carrie has chosen to major in psychology with a
minor in Spanish.
