Myrtle Grove Middle School Assistant Principal
Selected as NCPTA Educator of the Year

Scott Urban, assistant principal at Myrtle Grove Middle School, was honored on April 25, 2009, in Greenville, NC, by the North Carolina Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA) as the 2009 Educator of the Year for the State of North Carolina. This award recognizes the contribution of an educator who has made outstanding contributions in the field of education that have benefitted children and youth of North Carolina. Prior to the State competition, Mr. Urban was selected as the District 2 winner, which includes 13 counties in the district area.

Mr. Urban was recognized for bringing the national program, Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) to the state. Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers or father figures who volunteer for a minimum of one full day at their child's school. The Watch D.O.G.S. help supervise students at arrival and class change, help tutor students in the classrooms, and play games with the students at lunch and recess.

Last year, 86 fathers signed up as Watch D.O.G.S. at Myrtle Grove, and they all indicated that they loved spending a day where it's “all good at the Grove!” Their positive influence at Myrtle Grove continues to help provide a safe and nurturing environment for all Myrtle Grove Gators.
