New Hanover High School Army JROTC Unit Held Awards Ceremony

Recently, the New Hanover High School Army JROTC Wildcat Battalion held its Unit Awards Ceremony at a battalion formation on the school campus. Cadet LTC Ashley Brown was the emcee and Cadet MAJ Bobby James was the Commander of Troops. Guest award presenters were NHHS Principal Mr. Chris Furr and NHHS Assistant Principals Mr. Jackie Blackmore and Mr. Phillip Sutton.

  • The Wildcat Battalion conducted a Pass in Review and Company C, commanded by Cadet CPT Shaniqua Greene, received the Best Marching Company Trophy for this event. Many other awards were also presented, which follow:
  • Mr. Furr presented the Best Azalea Festival Marching Unit Plaque to Cadet LTC Ashley Brown.
  • Ms. Jennifer Anderson received a plaque designating her “Honorary Cadet Colonel.”
  • Top 15 Count Drill Trophies were presented to:
    • Freshman - Cadet SGT James Jones
    • Sophomore - Cadet SFC Jaryd Renshaw
    • Junior- Cadet CPT Joel Puritz
    • Senior - Cadet 1SG Ivan Matsumura
  • Cadet Challenge Medals were presented to Cadets:
    • PVT Kenisha Rodgers
    • PFC Ashley Perrymon
    • SGT Emmanuel Robinson
    • CPT Meshel’le Roach
    • SGT Danielle Clemmons
    • PFC Gregory Little
    • PVT Ashley Gause
    • 2LT Andramada Jones
  • Cadets PFC Alex England and CPT Stacie Rembert were presented Principal Medals for superior drilling.
  • Best First Sergeant 1SG Trophy was awarded to ISG Ivan Matsumura of Company B.
  • Unit awards included:
    • Best Company March off - Company A commanded by Cadet CPT Stacie Rembert.
    • Best Squad Drill without Arms - Company A commanded by Cadet CPT Stacie Rembert.
    • Best Squad Drill with Arms - Company B commanded by Cadet CPT Meshel’le Roach.
    • Best Platoon Drill without Arms - Company C commanded by Cadet CPT Shaniqua Greene.
    • Best Platoon Drill with Arms - Company B commanded by Cadet CPT Meshel’le Roach.
    • Highest Score for 15-count - Company A commanded by Cadet CPT Stacie Rembert.
    • Best Company Support- Company B commanded by Cadet CPT Meshel’le Roach.
    • Score in Company Inspections - Company C commanded by Cadet CPT Shaniqua Greene.
    • The Wilmington Journal Trophy was presented to the best company as determined by a system of battalion inspections, academics, and drill and marching competitions. Mr. John Davis III, of The Wilmington Journal, presented the trophy to Company B, commanded by Cadet CPT Meshel’le Roach.
