New Hanover High School Names
Boys' Head Varsity Basketball Coach

New Hanover High School (NHHS) is pleased to announce the appointment of its new boys’ head basketball coach, Christopher “Kirk” Angel. Coach Angel has been serving as an assistant basketball coach since January 2006, making him a part of the NHHS coaching crew for the 2007 North Carolina State Basketball Championship team. He has also served as NHHS’ JV football coach, JV baseball coach, and worked in the classroom as an exceptional children’s teacher assistant. Currently, he is a student at UNC-Wilmington where he is completing his K-12 teaching certification in PE/Health studies.

Prior to his coaching career, Angel received his Criminal Justice degree from UNCW and worked in the field of law enforcement. He was a police officer with both the Wilmington and Kure Beach police departments.

As a lifelong athlete, Angel was voted All-State in basketball and baseball and was named Athlete of the Year by his high school, Pamlico High School in 1992. He received a baseball scholarship to Mount Olive College.

NHHS Athletic Director, Keith Moore, feels Angel is a good fit for the team.

Coach Angel is very excited about taking the helm of the Wildcats’ varsity basketball team. He said, “I am looking forward to leading this great team…the talented, motivated players, the loyal Wildcat fans, and the supportive coaching staff, make this a great coaching opportunity.”

Wildcat fans can look for Coach Angel and his team to take the court in late November to kick-off the 2008-09 season.
