The New Hanover County Schools'
Board of Education approved administrative changes at their June
3, 2008, meeting. Beginning July 1, 2008, the following are
official principalship changes:
Michael Cobb will become
the new principal of Forest Hills Elementary School, replacing
Margaret Dickens who will be principal of Blair Elementary
School. She will fill the position vacated by Sharon Sand.
Michael Cobb has relocated to
Wilmington, NC, from Pomona, CA, where he was Principal at
Ignacio Lopez Elementary School. Mr. Cobb has received a
Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from California State
Polytechnic University and Professional Administrative
Credential from the University of California. He has completed
Doctoral Program course work in Curriculum and Instruction from

Margaret Dickens, a native of Wilmington, NC, graduated from
J. T. Hoggard
High School. Ms. Dickens received her Bachelor of
Arts degree in Psychology, double certification in Early
Childhood Education (K-4) and Learning Disabled and Mental
Retardation (K-12) from University North Carolina Wilmington.
She received a Master’s degree in Cross Categorical Special
Education (K-12) and a Master’s degree in School Administration
from UNC-W. Ms. Dickens has been an elementary teacher,
assistant principal and principal with the New
Hanover County School District.
Boni Hall is the new
principal of Wrightsboro Elementary School. She is filling the
position vacated by Monica Goza, who has taken the position of
Human Resources Supervisor.
Boni Hall, formerly the Assistant
Principal at Wrightsboro Elementary School, will become
Principal at the school as of July 1, 2008. Mrs. Hall has
fifteen years of elementary teaching experience from across the
state in Iredell, Durham, and Lenoir County and has worked at
College Park Elementary with New Hanover County Schools. In
addition to her experience at Wrightsboro, Mrs. Hall served as
the Administrator of Winter Park Baptist Preschool and
Kindergarten for five years. She received her Bachelor of Arts
degree in Early Childhood Education from Catawba College, a
Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision
from East Carolina University and a Master of Education degree
in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama.
Dawn
Stanford is the new principal of Gregory School of Science,
Mathematics and Technology, replacing Maria Greene who is being
transferred to the principalship of College Park Elementary
School.
Dawn Stanford has 13 years of
experience in the field of education. Ms.
Stanford received a
Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the State
University of New York-Excelsior College, a Master of Science
degree in Special Education from the College of New Rochelle,
NY, and a Professional Diploma in School Administration and
Supervision from Mercy College, NY. Previously, she was an
Instructional Leader at the Watson School of Education, UNC-Wilmington,
a consultant with the American Board for Certification of
Teacher Education in Washington, D. C., an elementary school
principal, assistant principal and teacher in the Peekskill City
School District in New York. In addition, she has taught Special
Education at the Biondi Education Center and the Greenburgh
Graham School District in NY.
Maria
Greene has been in the education profession over 15
years, impacting the lives of students, teachers and parents
in North Carolina. She received her Master of School
Administration degree from the University of North Carolina
Wilmington, Master of Education in Curriculum and
Instruction degree and Bachelor of Arts in Education, K-6,
from North Carolina Central University. Ms. Greene has held
leadership positions at three of NHC elementary schools:
Bellamy, Gregory and Pine Valley.
Rebecca
Higgins-Opgrand, current principal at College Park
Elementary, will be the new principal of Pine Valley Elementary
School to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Cindy
Talbert.
Rebecca T. Higgins-Opgrand is a
North Carolina native who graduated with a
Bachelor of Science
degree in Home Economics: Child Development and Family Relations
with certification in Early Childhood Education, her master’s
degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of
Georgia, Masters level certification in Educational Leadership
at the University of Georgia, and earned the Specialist in
Education degree in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Design
from the University of Georgia. She was a member of Kappa Delta
Pi Society for Academic Excellence at UGA and Alpha Delta Kappa
Honorary Sorority of Educators. She has contributed over 30
years to education.
