As with all New Hanover County middle schools, Trask is charged with finding new ways to motivate students to read and to stimulate them into approaching reading with a positive attitude. To make reading a positive experience, Trask has formulated projects that foster reading out loud in the form of drama, storytelling or recital, which improves student interest, vocabulary skills, contextual skills and comprehension.

This program has been shared with two-thirds of NHCS elementary schools by a touring demonstration team. The team demonstrates to teachers and students how to overcome the difficulties of staging drama in their classroom through the use of two activities: Readers Theatre and Team Theatre. The activities challenge students to be creative and innovative, quick and organized, while overcoming handicaps and being successful despite rules and restrictions.
