Virgo Middle School Students
Receive
Laptop and Mentorship from UNC-Wilmington and GE
Recently, twenty-three rising 7th
grade students, from Virgo Middle School, participated in the
first Millennium Education Technology and Leadership (METAL)
camp at UNC-Wilmington. Students participated in interactive
lessons and campus experiences.
The METAL grant, from GE, was developed to enhance computer
skills and assist with the understanding of technology use in
education, business and life. The camp provided hands-on
education from seasoned GE professionals and UNCW faculty and
staff. Megan Silvey, principal at Virgo Middle School, Laura
Jennings, Assistant Principal, and Jane Saunders were
instrumental in planning this event.
Upon completion of the camp, the students will gain use of a
personal Dell laptop for three years, home Internet access and
will be paired with a mentor as part of a UNCW and GE Hitachi
Nuclear Energy partnership.
For more information, contact Megan Silvey, principal, at
910-251-6150.
