High School Voter Registrations
in New Hanover County

With the elections coming up, students in five local high schools will be given the opportunity to register to vote. New Hanover, Hoggard, Laney, Ashley, and Mosely will be conducting voter registrations for students that are 18 or older throughout the month of September and the beginning of October.

High school voter registration is another way that New Hanover County Schools is encouraging civic service through voting. They are also encouraging younger students in elementary and middle schools to participate through Kids Voting USA.

The dates for each local high school’s registrations are posted below.

New Hanover High School - Sept. 8 - 12
Hoggard High School- Sept. 15 - 19
Laney High School: Sept. 22 - 26
Ashley High School: Sept. 29 - Oct. 3
Mosely High School: Sept. 17

The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina is 25 days before the day of the election. In addition to high schools, registrations can be made at public libraries, the Department of Motor Vehicles, agencies, and through the mail. To be eligible to register, a student must be:

A U.S. citizen.
A resident of North Carolina at least for 30 days prior to the election.
18 years old by the time of election.
Not registered to vote in any other county or state.
