Students
and their family members traveled on the timeline experiencing
art and music throughout mankind. Throughout the year, each
grade level has been learning the history of a certain time
period or style of art and music on the timeline. Throughout
the building in different rooms, you could touch, feel, listen,
create, and.or experience these different styles. In
the kindergarten prehistoric times room you could paint and
draw on leather and play 'boomwhackers". In 1st
Grade rooms you could make mosaic art with sticky foam or
play an autoharp pretending
you were in an an ancient culture. 2nd Graders studied
the Renaissance. At Arts Alive you could draw under
the table or sculpt like Michelangelo or compose music. In
the Baroque time period rooms, studied by 3rd graders, you
could draw a Baroque scene with a marker or go to the instrument
'petting zoo'. Band students from Myrtle Grove Middle School
brought their instruments and shared them with visitors. 4th
graders learned about the Romantic/Impressionism time period. Visitors
to Arts Alive could try imitating Monet's Garden with chalk
pastels or draw what they heard at listening stations. Students
in 5th grade had been studying arts in modern times so visitors
had the change to splatter paint like J. Pollock or learn
modern line dancing. Some fifth grade students entertained
visitors with story telling.
