 Math

updated Oct. 19, 2005

Included in the Math curriculum at Parsley is the use of Math textbooks (Harcourt) and manipulatives, Math Superstars, and Accelerated Math (for grades 3-5). Goals and objectives taught are in alignment with the North Carolina Math Standard Course of Study and the New Hanover County pacing guide.

Accelerated Math is a software program that allows teachers to personalize instruction for individual students while following and using the standard course of study and county adopted textbooks. It provides extensive practice for each student based on individual needs. Daily assignments are scanned and scored. Teachers generate reports that help them assess individual strengths and weaknesses from which they can then best determine the next course of action for each student.

Number Night at Parsley is an opportunity for students and their parents to experiment with various math activities. Students explore not only their own classroom's math activities, but also with others in their same grade level and also in other grade levels. Moms and dads get to see first hand the fun ways there are to learn to do math.

Participants may have the opportunity to sort objects, make estimations, do some 'Accelerated Math', measure different objects, explore geometric shapes, and much more.
