mailing letterParsley Elementary launched "Parsley Postal Pals" in March of 2005. This program gives students the opportunity to write and receive letters through our in-school postal service. Students, as part of a class language arts lesson, or just for fun, write letters to each other or to staff members. The letters are addressed using standard procedures and are placed in the mailbox outside the front office. Fourth grade students apply for positions on the postal team and handle all the jobs responsible for the collection, cancellation, sorting and delivering of mail.  Mail is delivered on Wednesday mornings.

Within the classroom students are exposed to and practice real-life skills such as writing various types of letters (i.e. friendly, persuasive, thank you, etc.) and addressing envelopes. Students may also write letters at home and bring them to school and 'mail' them. Parents can even send letters to their children!

See an example on how to write a friendly letter and how to address an envelope.
