During the second semester for a little over a week, each grade level takes turns displaying what they have been learning in Science and Social Studies. Students, staff, and guests walk through the multipurpose room to view what our students have to share. While some of the exhibits are displays of an individual's or class project, many of are interactive and/or hands-on fun!

Many grade levels study different organisms in Science. At this Walk of Discovery, you could see meal worms, guppies, and plants. There were projects about North Carolina, the solar system, and experiments in conductivity.

growing sweet pea
First graders have been learning about communities, presidents, their teeth, and living things.  They have been growing plants and observing guppies and insects in habitats in their classrooms.
The second grade Walk of Discovery was all about the study of animals and life cycles, learning to record observations in science, studying holidays through literature, sound, and time lines of student lives.

Saturn display
Displays of the solar system included planet reports and models, studies of the moon, sun, and constellations. Third graders also studied presidents and presidential candidates, famous African Americans, graphing student votes, the 18th century, and even bees!
viewing circuitry
Students loved the hands-on exploration with the circuits the fourth graders made when learning about electricity.  On display were also reports on North Carolina and animals, as well as studies of food chemistry and owl pellets. These students have also studied braille and compared themselves to an important adult in their lives. Geometryville projects were also on display.
Fifth Grade students have been studying weather, landforms, the thirteen original colonies and the fifty United States.  At their Walk of Discovery, there were also displays about whales and living ecosystems.

Weather was the topic of most of the items on display.  Writings about weather, snowflakes of all kinds and sizes, and a hands-on simulated cyclone were some of the things kindergarteners shared.

Students in 1st grade have been studying balance and motion, rocks, and holidays around the world.  Also on display were adaptive devices used by students in Mrs. Evan's class.
Living things - critters and plant, habitats, communities, and celebrations were some of the things second graders have been learning about in recent weeks.
Third graders have been busy learning about bones, plants, bees, and Wilmington (through "Tarheels Go Walking"). They learned about different countries and the voting process.
Touring the 4th grade Walk of Discovery meant learning about the food pyramid, viewing bones from owl pellets and animal foot prints, reading biographies, student created travel, pamphlets and animal reports.
Fifth graders have learned about many different aspects of weather. They have also studied Canada and different states in the US.
