PTA Meeting and Proud Patriot Night
At the first PTA General Membership Meeting, President Deb Church welcomed Parsley families to a new school year. The PTA budget was shared and families were reminded to join the PTA and to contribute to Parsley Pride. We elected three new parent representatives to the School Improvement Team.
After the official business, families were dismissed to their classrooms for Proud Patriot Night. Students shared classwork, projects, and their data notebooks with their families. It was an opportunity for students to shine and proudly show what they have accomplished so far this school year.
How Can You Lose a Marble? Race - In fifth grade, students have been
learning about friction, motion, inclined planes, and gravity in science class. They were tasked with building the slowest maze possible using their knowledge of friction and gravity. Many students used slope and gravity and highly frictional surfaces to slow down the marble.
Kindergarteners have been learning about fire safety this month.
Prior to the PTA Meeting, Mrs. Youmans, Parsley's Gifted Education Specialist, held an AIG informational meeting. She talked about the following: the New Hanover County Schools criteria for identification of students in the AIG program, how the MATCH Team monitors and identifies students for the AIG program and/or differentiation in the regular classroom, how the AIG program is implemented at Parsley, and how students are identified for middle school AIG. All parents who were interested in this informational meeting were invited to come. For more information about the AIG program at Parsley, visit Mrs. Youman's website. |
