updated for 2004-2005!
Once a week, generally on Friday, we broadcast a morning show called "Parsley Today". Each week a different class is featured and the students are the stars of the show! Our show is usually broadcast live each week from a different classroom. A typical show opens with our Parsley Today jingle written by Mrs. Tucker-Morgan, our music teacher. Other segments of the show with jingles are Arts Smarts, Character Counts, and Groovin' to the Music. Each show generally has two anchors. A guest anchor (4th or 5th grader) may assist students in younger grades. Classes often report about activities or projects the class has been studying. We also interview new staff members and students. Sometimes the whole show is based around a central theme. We have learned about such things as the metamorphosis of a butterfly, sign language, regions of North Carolina, healthy eating habits, animals, and holidays. Sometimes staff members are the "actors" and through creative skits teach the students about things such as how not to spread the flu. Special editions of Parsley Today have included an interview with Representative Danny McComas, weatherman Mark McGinnis, Enrichment Clubs, and Book Character Week. On occasion, when a show has many set changes or if a class wants to use video from a field trip, the show may be pre-recorded, edited using iMovie and then shown during the regularly scheduled time on Friday morning.

The production team consists
of Amy Conklin (SAGE teacher) - scripts , Mary Rizzo (Technology Facilitator)
- videographer/film editor, Suzanne Sload (Art teacher) - sets, Amy Tucker-Morgan
(Music teacher) - music, and Josh (5th grader) as cameraman. With incredible teacher and student ingenuity, sets and costumes are created as appropriate. You'd be amazed at how many times a refrigerator box can be recycled! |
Here (Oct. 2004) Josh films his own class, Mrs. Postemski's 5th grade, as the students interview Mark McGinnis, weatherman from WWAY TV3. After learning about "taking the initiative", these students wrote to Mr. McGinnis and asked him if he would could come and let them interview him about the weather and being a weatherman. Josh began learning to be a cameraman when he was in 4th grade. |

| The fourth graders in Mrs. Kiker's class were studying the seven regions of the world. Each student, through their research, learned about one animal from each region. For Parsley Today, "Indiana Jones" visited each region of the world and learned about many different animals by interviewing "scientists" and "doctors". In the end, he realized that snakes weren't so bad after all! | ||
